Tsugaru shamisen was created in the Tsugaru region of Aomori prefecture. It was once considered an art to be performed solo, but the first generation of the Oyama school, Mitsuo Oyama, had the idea of performing in an ensemble. Since then, the shamisen has made leaps and bounds in the music world. Experience the ensemble sounds of the Oyama-kai Seinenbu, as they incorporate a wide range of influences, performing folk songs and original compositions.
This group is made up of the top young members of the Oyama-kai, whose activities are led by Yutaka Oyama, third generation of the Oyama school. The first generation, Mitsuo Oyama, was the first in Tsugaru Shamisen history to perform with an ensemble style, and created fusion ensembles, carrying on traditional folk songs and developing new ones, performing all over the place. The group has performed with Arashi in the ARASHI LIVE TOUR 2015 Japonism, ARASHI Japonism Show in ARENA 2016, Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2017, appeared in Naoto Inti Raymi’s “El Japones” music video, taken part in Tokyo Olympic-related events, appeared in director Noda Hideki’s “Tokyo Caravan” and much more, performing in ways outside the traditional form.
