Sugao Kabuki Sugao Ichiza

Yorokobi-sanbaso

The Sanbaso is a celebratory dance that prays for world peace, abundant harvests, and successful performances. It began as a ceremony song for Noh plays. The strong stomping rhythm levels the ground, bells in the hands represent the planting of seeds, in celebration of bountiful harvests and prayers for more. It is performed around Japan in many forms including folk entertainment, puppetry, and has even been incorporated into kabuki performances. It is often seen on the first day of a stage run, on special anniversaries, and on other celebratory occasions.

Tokyo Sugao Kabuki Sugao Ichiza is looking for new members. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Weekly rehearsals are Wednesdays from 8pm. Join us!
